About toxicplantsoftheworld.com
Toxic Plants of the World's main goal is to become a data base for students, researchers, teachers, and anyone interested, to view information on every known toxic plant in the world. We view this information as important, because there are some very toxic plants that are out there that are mistaken for non-toxic plants. Some plants can kill you, but the majority will just make you wish you were dead. It is our wish for this data base to be as complete as possible. We are looking to answer these questions over each plant:
1. Genus name
2. Species name
3. Family name
4. Symptoms
5. Treatments/if known
6. How to identify the plant
7. Plants that are mistaken for the toxic plant (if known)
8. Common names
9. Main areas the plant is known to grow in
10. Interesting facts about the plant
In addition to answering the above questions, we hope to collect many pictures of the plants in order to help people identify them. Videos may become available of our experts pointing out key identifying factors; however, as we are currently only 3 people, videos of all plants would be impossible. As more people flock to the data base, we encourage anyone that would wish to contribute to summit their information to the above questions over their plant of choice. A picture is needed in addition to the information, as well as sources if your article is to be considered. Factual information is top priority of this website, which is why it will be a slow process. However, it will be worth while. The database is currently free and will remain free for as long as it is possible. However, in the future, it may become necessary to charge a premium membership fee to get access to certain parts of the database in order to fund this ongoing project. However, it is something we would like to avoid, if at all possible. One thing planned to help avoid having to go premium is to have donations, fundraisers, a ad, and having all the work be done by volunteers.
